Summer Time Fun!

Well, summer is a great time for any child, but when you add a birthday, the State Fair, vacations (or mini-vacations), and special exhibits at a favorite museum, the summer just can not be any better!

Over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, we visited the girls’ maternal grandparents, uncle, and great grandma, as well as having celebration number 1 for AJT07’s third birthday. As you can see, the baker (a.k.a. my brother) had a wonderful and flavorful surprise for AJT07 – needless to say, there were some blue tongues and blue mouths after that. AJT07 also became reacquainted with Buddy, the ever-popular cat. Both girls had fun, as they usually do when visiting family in Ohio.

At the end of July we took a mini-vacation to Northwest Ohio, staying in Port Clinton, but visiting Marblehead (Mommy’s favorite lighthouse), Put-In-Bay, and two different wildlife refuges. This time AJT04 climbed to the top of Marblehead by herself and was able to come down on her own as well; however, AJT07 had Mommy carry her up (with the exception of four steps) and carry her back down – so she did make it to the top, just with a good bit of assistance. Since we visited Put-In-Bay, AJT07 had her first boat ride – a short 20 minutes or so, but a boat ride, nonetheless. She enjoyed it as much as AJT04 had enjoyed her first boat ride a few years ago. While on the island, the girls played in the park, we ate at the Boardwalk restaurant, and the girls completed some Junior Ranger activities at Perry’s Victory Monument. AJT04 was the only one interested in being sworn in, but both girls received badges to add to their collections.

Early in August, we went to the Indiana State Fair, where the girls participated in Little Hands on the Farm – an annual tradition at this point and the main activity the girls anticipate at the fair. The girls had I also stopped at the Children’s Museum to see the Rock Stars, Cars, and Guitars exhibit where AJT04 was brave and “go up on stage” to perform with museum volunteers. AJT07 could only say that the music was too loud and I realized I’m becoming old when the music I know and electronics that I used are now considered museum material.

In early August, we also had a couple of other celebrations for AJT07’s birthday. She picked a Bob the Builder theme (thus the hard hat) but one thrill for her was to receive jewelry, specifically some peridot jewelry that had been Mommy’s when I was a little girl – I know a bit mixed up with building and jewelry, but many people would say that Mommy is confused too….

The summer passed very quickly and now we are in a routine with school – hard to believe that AJT04 is in school and in only two short years, AJT07 will be as well.
